  • These foods provide us with an important source of calcium. They are therefore ideal as part of a healthy balanced diet.
  • Where possible use low fat options. Semi-skimmed and skimmed milk, half fat cream and low fat yoghurts can all be used instead of full fat versions.
  • Softer cheeses tend to be lower in fat than hard cheeses. These are useful alternatives in sandwiches and salads.
  • Fresh or frozen yoghurts are a good addition to ice cream on the dessert menu. They can also be much lower in fat.

Hints, Tips and Ideas..

  • Using strongly flavoured cheeses means the quantity can be reduced.
  • Always grate cheese into sandwiches. You use less and it makes it go further!
  • Offer homemade milkshakes or smoothies made with fresh fruit and reduced fat milk and yoghurt as a light snack.
