Low Fat Diet

Three Apples

Reducing your fat intake MAY alleviate symptoms such as indigestion or gall bladder pain. This is NOT a slimming diet NOR a diet to reduce cholesterol.

Basic tips for reducing fat in your diet:-

  • Avoid fried foods - grill, poach, bake, boil, steam, roast or microwave
  • Trim visible fat from meats - remove skin from poultry and fish
  • Use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk for sauces and puddings. Do not add cream or fat to sauces
  • Use small amounts of low fat spreads
  • Avoid foods high in fat

Eating less fat will reduce your calorie intake. This is useful if you want to lose weight - if not, fill up on moderate/low fat foods, particularly bread, potatoes, cereals, rice, pasta and chapattis. For examples of moderate/low fat foods - see table below.

If you feel you need further advice, please ask your doctor to refer you to a Dietitian.
