Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Programme
The Occupational Therapy department has an Occupational Therapist who specialises in chronic pain rehabilitation. She can help patients with persistent pain problems by helping them overcome fear avoidance behaviour through graded exposure to function activily, exercise using pacing, goal setting and relaxation.
The chronic pain has close links with a multidisciplinary team including a clinical psychologist, physiotherapist and a GP specialist.

Referral Criteria
Adults only with
- Chronic intractable neck/back/shoulder/arm or leg pain or fibromyalgia
- Patients must have the ability to read/write the language of the facilitator (currently English)
- Patients must have had appropriate investigations to rule out malignant pain
- Patients must be no longer seeking a cure for their pain/problems
- Patients must not be suffering with psychotic illness, major depression, dementia or moderate/severe personality disorders.
- Patients must have had a course of Physiotherapy and a TENS trial
Referral Pathway
Can be recommended by consultants, therapists or pain clinic. All referrals must come via the patient's GP.
