COPD Service Benefits from Psychology
People with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) now benefit from a Clinical Psychologist to help them cope with their condition as part of a recently developed service “Better Breathing for Better Living”. This is a multi-disciplinary pulmonary rehabilitation and condition management programme. COPD is a lung condition which affects people’s breathing and has a major impact on their life, often including psychological effects such as anxiety and depression. Anxiety can make some symptoms such as breathlessness even worse, further limiting their quality of life.
This service forms part of an innovative approach to supporting people with long term health problems at home. It is hoped to extend the service to people with other types of long term health problems in the future.
