Bariatric (Heavy Duty) Wheelchairs

Wheelchair
  • Heavy duty wheelchairs are provided to clients whose weight exceeds that of manufacturer's recommendations for a standard wheelchair.
  • Joint funding with other agencies may be considered when clients whose weight is over 25 stone require equipment.
  • Where concerns arise regarding a main carers' ability to push the combined weight of a bariatric client in a heavy duty wheelchair, it may be appropriate to contact the carers' GP, with their consent, prior to issue.
