Wheelchair
  • Lightweight wheelchairs to enable carers to lift equipment (for instance) in/out of cars will only be issued following assessment by wheelchair services staff.
  • This category of wheelchair will only be isssued when it has been clearly demonstrated that a basic wheelchair, less all accessories and removable parts, cannot be lifted by the carer or client.
  • This category of equipment will only be issued to clients who satisfy the manufacturer's weight limit, and whose carer due to a medical condition should not or cannot lift a standard transit or self-propelling wheelchair, and where alternative lifting techniques prove ineffective.
  • Where appropriate, this may include obtaining a written report from the carers GP.
